This is a
traditional medium-sized plaid brooch with a large round cut away to show off
your tartan below. This is meant to evoke the old medieval brooches, while
being in a contemporary style. This brooch has a slight dome to it. This will
be a subtle statement piece that rewards close inspection.
This
brooch has a series of lion bosses at four angles, with a simple Celtic Knot and
zoomorphic beast motif in between. The lion has been a symbol of Scotland and
the Scots since the middle ages, while the knotwork stretches back into the
early middle ages. The delightful lions here were designed by the late Romilly
Squire, heraldic artist to the Lord Lyon.
Plaid brooches attach to the shoulder plaid to act as weights to
keep them in place. Note that you do not pin the plaid to the jacket, in case the
plaid snags on anything. This also makes a nice lady’s shawl brooch.
Completely
designed, mastered, cast and finished in our Glasgow workshops, right in the
heart of Scotland.
Cast from high-quality 100% lead-free pewter.
Size 72mm diameter - ideal for use with our fly plaids or shawls.
This
would also make a great accompaniment to our Treasure Lion tie clip.
